Gold Rush Day Cancelled

The fourth annual Gold Rush Day, scheduled for Saturday, October 17, in downtown Angels Camp, has been cancelled.

The cancellation is due to the fact that we will be unable to close Main Street/State Highway 49 for an entire day.  The Butte Fire incident command center is located at the Calaveras County fairgrounds, south of Angels Camp.  Even when the Butte Fire is declared completely controlled, the command center will be operational for weeks after that declaration and their vehicles will need full access to Main Street.

However, the Angels Camp Commemorative Committee — a bunch of highly creative and resilient individuals — will meet again next week to plan out a series of events over the next year that will commemorate the 150th anniversary of Mark Twain’s 88 days in Angels Camp and the Mother Lode.  And, on October 15, 2016, Gold Rush Day will celebrate the 151st anniversary of his visit and the writing of “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.”
